My buddy posted this (http://noeruiz.com/white-iphone-4-not-thicker/), and I tried to tell Engadget -- they wouldn't hear it.
Kind of ridiculous.
It is amusing, because it was clear from the first photograph claiming a thickness difference was taken on an angle that simply made the white iPhone look thicker.
Was pretty clear that was all it was. Firs thing I thought is why did they not take the photo head on and level like your friend did.
It's clear that some iPhone 4s are thicker. (see engadget photo)

That new engadget picture with a piece of glass and some spacer in it is not evidence of different thicknesses. it involves so many different pieces of materials it is not something that should be considered accurate.
Why can't engadget afford actual calipers. They can't be that expensive.
As for the TiPB pictures, I have been staring at them for the last few minutes, and I can't even determine if they know how to use the calipers or what measurments they are comparing to each other.

Just wondering how Japan perceives Apple as a company - if anyone knows. I know they don't like Microsoft (as in Xbox). I can't imagine they sell many Apple computers over there. Ipods a different story?
Last I remember, Japan and Korea tend to show loyalty to Japanese companies, hence Sony playstation doing well in Japan. I also remember reading that iPod is #3 in like Japan, a #4 in Korea or something.

No major changes. Some new wacko will step up and fill the fresh void.
That being said, it is a HUGE moral victory for us and our troops.
I'm not so sure that the void can be filled. Osama Bin Laden had become a figurehead, split away from his funding and logistical support, and existed as a symbol.
A new leader would have to fulfill that same roll, but Al Qaeda's money trail has been cut to ribbons, their logistical support is broken, and the organization's ability to recruit may be blunted by the 'Arab Spring.'
The Taliban, however, will keep on rolling, but they have always operated as a separate group, although their operational structures were intertwined.
Remember that Al Qaeda has been 'franchising' itself since before 9/11, so expect to see clones popping up in Africa and the Mid East that claim the same lineage, with leaders who will claim to be the next Osama Bin Laden.
However, that moment has passed.

Wouldn't using the "extra" electricity to power fans to decrease heat lead to less "extra" electricity???? :rolleyes: I hope they really think this through - and I'm sure they will. Of course powering fans isn't the only use for electricity.
LOL!! Good one. They'll cool the chip which will produce less electricity which will slow the fans and produce more heat which will make more electricity to speed up fans to cool the chip which will....:confused: :eek:

Here's my idea:
Hook up that chip, and then just keep overclocking the thing... you don't have to worry about it overheating and melting, it'll just give you more battery life.
It could go infinitely fast for infinitely long!
There's probably something in there about conduction and efficiency and stuff, but I'll leave that to the engineers

You need to have a Macboook or imac. Go to app store. Buy. Xcode for $5. Install. Hook up iPad. Bring up xcode. It will detect iPad. Click "use for development" then just use your apple id credentials. Finally go to ipad dsettings and click on yes for multitasking getures.

You're right that Windows has the major retail cash register & ATM market down. However, a lot of stores don't use Windows (pretty much any small business that uses those casio cash registers doesn't, and many chains like 99 cent stores just use those tiny keyboard-is-the-computer registers that I am 100% certain DO NOT run Windows).
On that note, I can tell you that Dish Network uses Linux on all of their receivers, but then Comcast and VZ use Windows on their receivers *ponders*

By harnessing this power the devices, be they initially laptops and handhelds, or later even servers and PCs, should see improved energy efficiency, extended battery life and enhanced performance.

If the Intel chips burn 100W, then 9% conversion efficiency would generate 9W of electricity. In absolute terms, that's not too bad. You can do a lot with 9W. If you have a 5 hour battery life now, and can use these on all the major power sinks, you'd get 5.5 hours of battery life.
Hold up! 9% is and Ideal Carnot Engine efficiency. Real World efficiecny would be about 1/5. So, at most you are going to get 1.8W and thats if the fans dissipate 100W of heat which is ridiculously high number. I would see it around 20W, meaning your recycled energy would be .37W. What can you do with that? Oh right power partially a fan.

My heart goes out to anyone lost enough to get on a line for 3 hours for a t-shirt. Only in England, the land where we love to queue.
I am reminded about sad guy who got in line in New York on Monday for an iPhone, and the expected throngs lining up behind him over the next 5 days never materialized.
Don't get me wrong...I'll be down at Regent Street later today, but if I were to arrive at 3, it would only be to share a drink and a laugh at some pub with my fellow forum mates. So far, it doesn't seem that is going to happen, but if their is a pre-sale pub meetup, call it here and count me in.

Plus, girls like mystery and by showing up in a place you KNOW she will be, you're removing all the mystery.
If you can, without stalking her or being creepy, find out what other stuff she likes besides Apple, or where you might have an UNPLANNED encounter with her, you might have a chance of saving this situation.
Other than that, it looks quite tricky....tricky tricky tricky.
